Influence

Mark Rothko

Artist
Rothko was an abstract expressionist who emphasized on minimalism. I find Rothko's later work very intriguing on how it effects people's emotions and making them feel a certain way. I first discovered Mark Rothko at the Milwaukee Public Art Museum and later on in Chicago, I sat in front of one of  his pieces entitled "Untitled (Purple, White, and Red)" for about 30 mins. This experiences was very unpermissive due to the fact that the colors in this minimalistic pieces force you to feel emotions that you hold back; suddenly you become flooded with all the pain and struggle that you've felt before. I became overwhelmed with he intensity of the complexity of the simplicity of "Untitled". Rothko is of great influence to me because his work shares one of the messages I wish to disclose through my work. That message/experience is the sharing of emotions between artist and viewer, a communicative approach.
